Shells in linux

Generally shells in linux,UNIX are similar to DOS in windows.But shells are bit powerful than DOS. Shell can interact with the kernel directly.

The list of shells are.

1)bash(Bourne-Again Shell)

2)zsh(Z Shell)

3)adsh(Adventure Shell)

4)csh & tcsh(C Shell)

5)sh(Bourne Shell)

6)ksh(Korn Shell)

Any of the above shell reads command from user (via Keyboard or Mouse) and tells Linux Os what users want. If we are giving commands from keyboard it is called command line interface.

TIP:To find your current shell type following command(as it is without ‘$’ symbol in front)
$ echo $SHELL
